Balga is a character in the third installment of the Battle Arena Toshinden video game series. He made his first and only appearance in Battle Arena Toshinden 3, as an unlockable counterpart to Duke B. Rambert, with a similar moveset to him, although he can use kicks, unlike Duke.
Story[]
Balga is a Norwegian knight who seeks to defeat all who stand in his way so that he can honor the name of his aristocratic family. Stemming from a ruling bloodline rooted from Norse invaders who terrorized Europe during the Viking Age, and were able to hold lands of Normandy in medieval France before being expelled to the north, Balga's family prided themselves on their violent and dominating origins, and into the current day seek out a legacy built of power and warfare they believe has been callously denied to them through the ages. Trained to be the heir of his family's legacy, Balga had endured countless years of swordplay and practice so that he can have no flaws or faults from within any battle that he gets himself into. Besides having to honor his family's name, Balga's second purpose in life is to eliminate the last heir of his family's sworn enemy clan, the Ramberts of France, who countered them for centuries as their historic nemeses and finally ousted them as traitors to France since the days of the Hundred Years War; the heir being none other than Duke B. Rambert himself.
One day, Balga gets an unexpected visit from a man named Abel, who tells Balga that he can grant him the chance and opportunity to kill Duke if he was to come to the third Toshindaibukai and work for his organization known only as the Soshiki. Knowing and realizing that this was indeed a best prospect and possibility in having to kill Duke and destroy the Rambert bloodline, Balga had accepted Abel's offer and went to the tournament in high hopes of killing his long-time rival.
When their match had finally came, Balga had fought against Duke unfairly, focusing on nothing more than eliminating him and that any chance for a chivalrous battle between the two knights was soon thrown out the window. Unfortunately for Balga, Duke's upper body strength and swordplay were more honed and adept than his, allowing him to fight on par even without the use of kicks, and had proven to be too much for him to handle and that Balga himself had ended up being slain by Duke instead.
Game Appearance[]
Balga is a Norwegian with short light orange hair which conceals his head with his gray cross helmet where it conceals half of his face and amber eyes. In-game, his light short orange hair is not seen when it was covered from his gray cross helmet.
He wears a knight armor similar to Duke's. A gray knight armor with a tiger designed linings in each sides along with brown greaves and a tan trim adorned with two brown belts. Underneath, he wears an emerald green body suit and gray knight boots. He also wields both his knight sword and a shield.

Trivia[]
- Balga's nationality, knight heritage, and his family's associations with the Organization may also be loosely inspired by the survival horror series Clock Tower. The worship of Agon Teos is similar to the worship of the evil god Great Father; the events of the first Clock Tower evoke the Organization's practice of sacrificing orphan children in their rituals; the Barrows' family history is also rooted in medieval knighthood, and his Desperation Move Dead End appears to be named after Clock Tower's signature game over screen.
